the discoveries (from the time before blog)
Cooking and baking are a essential parts of me... crafts I hone, outlets for stress (I bake when stressed but usually only taste what I've crafted), the passion I follow because I cannot stop myself. And for you?
While preparing to open this blog, I found pics of kitchen discoveries--although not nearly as many as pics of professional cooking! On the kitchen pioneer front, I'm hardly a Julia Child nor Grant Achatz nor Deb Perlman but did you know green tomatoes make sublime sweet pies (see Southern Living for a recipe)? Have you ever baked a Dutch Baby for breakfast? (my favorite go-to!) How's your luck been with roasted tomatoes? (mine were mediocre - why?) Ever cooked a meal, stepped back and thought, "Daaamn, girl. Good job!" (all. the. time.)
When in the kitchen, I act out MFK Fisher writing,
“It seems to me that our three basic needs, for food and security and love, are so mixed and mingled and entwined that we cannot straightly think of one without the others. So it happens that when I write of hunger, I am really writing about love and the hunger for it, and warmth and the love of it and the hunger for it… and then the warmth and richness and fine reality of hunger satisfied… and it is all one.” (-The Art of Eating - and yes, you should read her!).
In other words, discovery. Be interesting to see what we discover here in thisdelishlife.
